IFBB EVLS PRAGUE PRO , OCTOBER 19, 2013 - KAI GREENE WINS

Image
With the apparent demise of the British Grand Prix (at least for the 2013 season), the Prague Pro assumes the mantle of biggest IFBB professional event in Europe. The event was held this past weekend. There was a full slate of amateur categories, but only three professional classes, Men’s Open, Men’s 212, and the ever popular Bikini. The prize money up for grabs in the pro categories was enough to attract many of the top echelon of the IFBB stars. Kai Greene, fresh from his runner-up position at the Mr. Olympia, easily nailed down the top spot, with Dexter “The Blade” Jackson coming in second, and the “Texas Titan” Branch Warren in solid third. Meanwhile, James “Flex” Lewis cemented his position as the 212 to beat by handily winning his class, adding to the Mr. Olympia 212 title he won three weeks earlier in Las Vegas. Here is a summary of the top professional places: IFBB EVL’s Prague Pro Oct. 19, Prague, CZ Kai Greene Dexter Jackson Branch Warren Fred Smalls William Bonac Ton

BEETS BENEFICIAL FOR PERFORMANCE ATHLETES

When you were a kid, and your mom told you to eat your beets, it was because she knew what was good for you. Beets (Beta vulgaris) are inexpensive, yet loaded with vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber and antioxidants. Betaine from beets has been a common ingredient in many dietary supplements for years because of its strong antioxidant properties, and also because it helps cells retain water, which in turn helps nutrient utilization and protein synthesis. There has been renewed interest in beets because they have a naturally high concentration of nitrates. This helps enhance the metabolism’s production of nitric oxide (N.O.), the gas that causes blood vessels to dilate, which, in turn, improves nutrient and oxygen delivery to the cells. A recent review by British scientists of sixteen separate studies concluded that beet juice supplementation led to a significant reduction in blood pressure and increased blood flow. Beets have also been shown to boost aerobic and overall exercise capa
